Meteorologists of Belarus, Russia to discuss public warning problems in Novopolotsk

VITEBSK, 13 September (BelTA) – Meteorologists of Belarus and Russia will discuss public warning problems at a joint session in the Belarusian town of Novopolotsk on 14-15 September, BelTA learned from Alla Sholokhova, Head of the Vitebsk Oblast Center for Hydrometeorology and Environment Monitoring. Delivering necessary information to the general public, government agencies, enterprises (public utilities, transport enterprises, power engineering enterprises) for the sake of minimizing consequences of natural disasters or for preventing ecological catastrophes will be the main matter on the agenda of the 53rd session of the Union State Committee for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Pollution Monitoring. Participants of the session will also discuss the formation and creation of a single base of scientific and organizational documents for weather services as stipulated by the relevant Union State program, assimilation and use of new software, the state of surface waters in the transboundary sections of the Zapadnaya Dvina River and the Dnepr River. Belarusian Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Minister Vladimir Tsalko is expected to take part in the meeting. Attending will be representatives of interested agencies of Belarus and Russia. Ivan Bambiza, Deputy State Secretary of the Union State, is expected to attend the session on 14 September.
