Vitebsk school to launch Polish language program
VITEBSK, 31 August (BelTA) – Vitebsk school students will start learning Polish. The first Polish language classroom is going to open in Vitebsk Secondary School No. 22 on 1 September, BelTA learned from the school’s principal Yelena Novik.
The classroom is fitted with an AV system and study materials. The lessons will be extracurricular and will be held in the afternoon. “A survey has shown that almost one-third of our students from first- to eleventh-graders show interest in studying Polish,” Yelena Novik said. The lessons will be given by a professor of Masherov Vitebsk State University and a young specialist, a graduate of Belarusian State University.
The school administration plans to establish close cooperation with Polish educational institutions interested in the initiative, to launch student exchange programs, and carry out joint scientific and cultural projects. Yelena Novik is no stranger to such initiatives. She worked for six years as a deputy principal in Vitebsk Secondary School No. 44 that is carrying out a Chinese language program.
Partaking in the inauguration ceremony will be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Poland to Belarus Konrad Pawlik and top officials of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee and local authorities. The project was launched on the school’s initiative in cooperation with the Education, Sports and Tourism Department of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee and the administration of Vitebsk’s Oktyabrsky District. The study materials were provided by the public association Polska Macierz Szkolna.
