FM: Belarus hopes to become BRICS partner country
Belarus expects to get the status of a BRICS partner country but would like to become a full member of the organization in the future, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov said in an interview with RIA Novosti, BelTA learned.
“We are a reliable partner. This message has been repeatedly highlighted by the Belarusian president. If we promise something to our partners, we always deliver. We are a very predictable and reliable partner. Of course, we would like to gain membership but, as far as I understand, BRICS wants to separate the issues of membership, partnership and expectations of cooperation not to blur and devalue some things related to membership in the organization," Maksim Ryzhenkov said.
In other words, a state seeking to become a full member of BRICS must first obtain the status of a partner, and then confirm its intention to join the organization by deeds. "We are ready for this and look forward to receiving the status of a partner country," the minister said.
