International firefighting sport tournament begins in Vitebsk

An international firefighting and rescue tournament of the Belarusian physical training and sports society Dinamo began in Vitebsk on 5 June, BelTA has learned. The athletes had to climb to the fourth storey of the training tower using a hook ladder initially.

The tournament will last through 7 June. It will become one of the steps in getting the Belarusian national team ready for the world championship, which is due to take place in the Russian city of Saratov in September 2019. Nine teams from Belarus and Russia are taking part in the tournament in Vitebsk.

According to Viktor Zyryanov, chief coach of the Mass Sports Organization Center of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry, the decision to organize the tournament in Vitebsk was made for the sake of evaluating the available physical infrastructure. Next year the Emergencies Ministry intends to file an application for hosting a world junior firefighting and rescue sport tournament in Belarus.

For three days athletes in Vitebsk are going to compete in climbing the training tower using a hook ladder, overcoming a 100m obstacle course. The tournament will also include a 4x100m fire relay race and a combat deployment.

The tournament has been organized by the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry, the Belarusian physical training and sport society Dinamo, and the Belarusian Federation of Firefighting and Rescue Sport.
