Concerts and demonstrations of border guards. "Victory Relay" is hosted by the Vitebsk region
The final stage of the "Victory Relay" on the Belarusian land takes place in the area of the Polotsk border detachment. Smorgon border guards handed it over to their Polotsk colleagues on 16 February in Braslav, BelTA learned from the official representative of the Polotsk border detachment Denis Glebko.
"The relay in Belarus will pass a section of the border with a length of more than 3.5 thousand km. The first place was the city of Polotsk, then the relay proceeded to the border city of Verkhnedvinsk. Demonstrations in hand-to-hand combat, a maneuvering group, and a military orchestra were held here. Today's day will end with lessons of courage at two border outposts "Bigosovo" and "Soveyki", - said Denis Glebko.
Tomorrow, February 18, the Belarusian border guards will pass the symbol of the baton to colleagues from the Russian Federation at the Mound of Friendship, located at the junction of the borders of Belarus, Russia and Latvia.
"This event is very significant and is of great importance both for border guards and the local population, primarily for young people. After all, our task is to preserve the memory of the Great Victory. And it is symbolic that in the year of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, we are completing the relay at the junction of Belarus, Russia and Latvia, where there were very bloody battles, here the fascist reptile tried to squeeze us out, but we survived," Denis Glebko added.
The international event is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. It started on February 2 simultaneously in two places: in Russia - on the territory of Murmansk, in Belarus - on the sacred land of the Brest Fortress. In Belarus, the total length of the Victory Torch Relay route is more than 3.5 thousand km. The international action will end on May 28 in Moscow.
