A meeting of heads of
law enforcement agencies of Belarus and Nigeria took place in the Belarusian
Internal Affairs Ministry on 27 July, the ministry's press service told BelTA.
In his welcome speech
Belarusian Internal Affairs Minister Ivan Kubrakov said: “The Belarusian
Internal Affairs Ministry is ready to advance interaction with law enforcement
agencies of Nigeria in various areas, including the counteraction of
international terrorism and extremism, high-tech crimes, illegal trade in
drugs, weapons and ammunition, illegal migration, and other manifestations of
organized crime.”
As initial steps the
Belarusian side suggested considering the possibility of training personnel for
Nigerian law enforcement agencies. Ivan Kubrakov stressed the Academy of the
Internal Affairs Ministry has considerable experience of training foreign
specialists for special operations units, information security units, units in
charge of counteracting illegal drugs trade, experience of training canine
service units and other kinds.
In turn, Nigerian
Internal Affairs Minister Rauf Aregbesola said he was confident that the
meeting would open up new horizons in advancing comprehensive cooperation in
law enforcement.
The same day members
of the Nigerian delegation met with Chief of the Citizenship and Migration
Department of the Belarusian Internal Affairs Ministry Aleksei Begun. A broad
range of matters concerning migration were discussed.
While in Belarus the
Nigerian delegation is expected to meet with top officials of the State Authority
for Military Industry of Belarus, the Emergencies Ministry, and the State
Border Committee of Belarus. The delegation will visit the Academy of the
Internal Affairs Ministry and the Academy's international center for training,
career enhancement, and retraining of personnel in the sphere of migration and
counteraction of human trafficking.
