Belarus can export up to 6bn kWh of electricity to Ukraine per year

“Given the current capacities of our power grids, we can supply 5-6 billion kWh of electricity to Ukraine, without having to build any new links,” Pavel Drozd said.

Belarus has exported 840 million kWh of electricity to Ukraine this year, since July 2019. Some 22 framework contracts have been signed with Ukrainian traders. Nine contracts more will be struck soon.

Another 36 traders have applied, saying they are ready to enter into electricity sale contracts this year and next year,” Pavel Drozd said.

Next year Ukraine is set to import 2.1 billion kWh, the Belenergo chief said. This does not mean that all this volume will be supplied by Belarus. “Everything will depend on the price and costs of electricity on the Ukrainian market," he said.

In general, the export of Belarusian electricity in 2019, according to Pavel Drozd, will amount to about 2.35 billion kWh.
