Today in Vitebsk, 80 days before the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, the regional marathon "Roads of Victory" was launched.
The action, organized by the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee and the Vitebsk Regional Library named after V. I. Lenin, will unite people of all ages around poetry about the war. Reading poems will help to understand how important the Victory was for our people, at what price it was obtained then, the organizers believe.
The ceremonial start of the marathon was given by the chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Alexander Subbotin. The video, in which the head of the region recites Lev Titov's poem "June 26, 1944" about the liberation of Vitebsk from the collection "Memory of the Heart", did not leave indifferent the representatives of the regional executive committee, the literary community, former juvenile prisoners of Nazi concentration camps and ghettos, cadets, students of Vitebsk schools and colleges gathered in the assembly hall of the library.
As the head of the Department of Culture of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Pyotr Podgursky noted, every resident of the Vitebsk region and other regions of the country can join the marathon, thereby expressing respect for our common history and culture.
