How Vitebsk city services cope with winter weather

Winter finally announced itself with a February snowfall. And we found out how those who are obliged to provide Vitebsk residents with comfortable movement around the city at any time reacted to the weather conditions.

Here is what the chief engineer of the SE "Gordormost" Sergey Starovoytov said:

"We began treating the roadway with deicing materials on Monday at 10 am. By 4 p.m., this work was completed, and a formed column of equipment went out on the routes to clear them. It was followed by sprinkling again. Four MAZs, one tractor worked until 8 p.m., and after the shift change, on the night shift, additional MAZs were brought to the line. In addition, during the day, three sand spreaders were used on the roadway and four units of equipment each for clearing and subsequent sprinkling of sidewalks. At night, sidewalk cleaning was intensified.

Today, on Tuesday, active work continues. Sergey Starovoytov informed that nine units of equipment are working in the city to clear and sprinkle the roadway. Four more tractors with equipment are bringing the sidewalks into proper shape. 101 people are involved in the manual cleaning of bottlenecks, public transport stops, crossings. They collect snow in piles, and two loaders load it onto two dump trucks, which take the snow to the landfill. According to meteorologists, today the precipitation will be weaker, and tomorrow the snow will stop altogether, so Gordormost will most likely not have to attract additional equipment.

Galina Dervoed, Deputy Manager for Improvement and Sanitary Maintenance of the Housing Fund of the State Enterprise "ZhRET of Vitebsk", said that yesterday workers for the comprehensive cleaning of adjacent territories worked on clearing snow until half past nine in the evening. Today we went to the polling stations from six in the morning. 211 people are engaged in this work: 200 janitors and 11 involved from LTPs.

By half past ten, Galina Alexandrovna noted, almost all the paths, steps to the entrances were cleaned. In-house roads were also put in order from six in the morning by six tractors with appropriate attachments. Then four more units were added. But it is snowing, the traces of the work done are covered up, so we will have to make a second circle.
