How Polotsk celebrated the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus

July 3 is a special day in the history of our country. Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus is a symbol of freedom, national pride and unity, a memory of the resilience and fearlessness of the defenders of the Fatherland.

In the Polotsk region, many events were timed to coincide with this holiday. One of them was the city patriotic action dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders.

Deputies, representatives of the district administration and public organizations, employees of enterprises and organizations, veterans and youth gathered on Freedom Square. As a sign of memory and gratitude for the happiness of living under the peaceful sky of Belarus, they laid wreaths and flowers at the foot of the monument to the Liberators of Polotsk.

From the festive stage, the Chairman of the Polotsk District Executive Committee Igor Markovich addressed the residents and guests of the city with words of congratulations and good wishes. A participant in the Great Patriotic War, Alexander Rastopchin, congratulated his fellow countrymen on Independence Day. The price of our freedom and peaceful skies were the lives of millions. With a minute of silence, the participants of the celebration honored the memory of the victims. The successors of the defenders of the Motherland, the servicemen of the Polotsk garrison, paraded through the square. Congratulatory letters from the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Igor Sergeenko and the deputy corps to the participants of the Great Patriotic War Albert Zbarovsky and Alexander Rastopchin were presented by the deputy of the House of Representatives in the Polotsk constituency No27 Svetlana Odintsova.

Awards to activists

The Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus unites all those who are proud of their Motherland, honor its history and work to increase the wealth of their native land. During the festive celebration, an award ceremony was held for activists of public formations of the Polotsk region.

Polotsk residents rose to the stage, who won recognition for their professionalism, active citizenship and participation in socially significant events of the district. Igor Markovich presented Certificates of Honor of the Polotsk District Executive Committee to the Secretary of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union of the Polotsk Railway Junction Larisa Dzhigun, the Chairman of the Belaya Rus NGO of the Polotsk College of the Voronezh State University named after P.M. Masherov Alexei Zelenko, the Public Relations Specialist of the Polotsk District Association of Trade Unions Nadezhda Kaluzhonok, the member of the Board of the Polotsk District Organization of the Belarusian Women's Union Elena Trapeznikova, the member of the Council of the Polotsk District Organization of the Belarusian Public Association veterans Sergey Kopyl.

Gratitude of the Chairman of the District Executive Committee was announced to the inspector for the main activities of the Department of Social Assistance at Home of the Territorial Center for Social Services of the Polotsk District Elena Kordan, engineer, chairman of the PO "Belaya Rus" of the Polotsk ZUPS of the Vitebsk branch of RUE "Beltelecom" Igor Neploshanov, teacher, chairman of the PA "Belarusian Women's Union" of the Polotsk State Chemical Technology College Tatyana Pyalenok, specialist of the labor protection group, Chairman of the Belarusian Public Association of Veterans of the Polotsk Division of the Security Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Nikolai Sushko and the Belarusian Republican Youth Union of the Polotsk CHPP Branch of the RUE Vitebskenergo.

In a festive atmosphere

The performances of the best creative groups and performers of our region have become a gift for Polotsk residents and guests of the city. Also on Freedom Square, an exhibition-presentation of the military units of the Polotsk garrison was organized. There were interactive sites of the Polotsk District Department of Internal Affairs, the State Emergency Service and the Polotsk Department of the Department of Security, which adults and children got acquainted with with interest.

In an atmosphere of friendship and unity, residents and guests of the Polotsk region celebrated the main holiday of our republic.
