Chairman of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee Alexei Geroev got acquainted with the photos of the exhibition "On the Steps of History. Belarus Yesterday and Today".

The exhibition was organized by the editorial staff of the city newspaper "Vitbichi" with the support of the Vitebsk regional branch of the Belarusian Union of Journalists.

Alexei Geroev drew attention to black-and-white photographs of 1991-1994, where Vitebsk residents stand in line at the store and near the market stalls to buy the necessary products for the family. Modern pictures show the range of domestic products in retail facilities, and smiling buyers and sellers next to them.

- At the exhibition prepared by Vitebsk journalists for the 30th anniversary of the institution of the presidency, two important periods for us are compared. Photos of the 1990s are a living example of the difficult life of thousands of citizens," said Alexey Geroev. "Today we are not faced with the problem of where to buy any goods, how to spend our free time, what cultural events to go to. And most importantly: we live in a peaceful country, we are building our own future. And this should be appreciated.
