Belarus highlights destructive impact of sanctions on world of work at UN

All UN agencies should give their principled assessment of the illegality of sanctions and their destructive impact on the world of work, Belarusian Labor and Social Security Minister Irina Kostevich said as she delivered a video address to the general discussion at the 61st session of the UN Commission for Social Development, BelTA learned from the press service of the Labor and Social Security Ministry.

According to the minister, countering new challenges requires serious consolidation of the efforts of the entire world community, but this approach is not shared by everyone. "I am talking about the illegal and harmful practice of imposing sanctions, which has already led to devastating consequences in various regions of the world, creating serious obstacles to the implementation of the concept of decent work and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals," Irina Kostevich said.

The minister believes that all UN structures need to issue their principled assessment of the illegality of sanctions, their destructive impact on the world of work. "This will be an important step towards overcoming the global challenges of our time," she said.

The session of the Commission for Social Development is taking place at the UN headquarters in New York from 6 to 15 February. Participants discuss creating full and productive employment and decent work for all as a way of overcoming inequalities to accelerate the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
