Belarus, Italy to develop cooperation in tourism
MINSK, 15 March (BelTA) – Belarus and Italy are planning to sign a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in tourism, BelTA learnt from Viktor Yakovenko, director of the tourism department of the Sport and Tourism Ministry. Belarus to increase oil output in Venezuela
CARACAS, 15 March (BelTA) – Belarus will increase the oil output in Venezuela up to 20,000 barrels a day, said President of Venezuela Hugo Chavez as he met with a Belarusian delegation in Caracas. The Belarusian delegation traveled to Venezuela to take part in a session of the joint Belarusian-Venezuelan commission for trade and economic cooperation. The joint Belarusian-Venezuelan company Petrolera BeloVenezolana extracts about 15,000 barrels of oil a day.

Nuclear power to substitute 5m tonnes of imported fuel for Belarus
MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) – The development of nuclear power engineering will allow Belarus to substitute around 5 million tonnes of imported fuel by 2020, Deputy Energy Minister Mikhail Mikhadyuk told a science and practice conference in Minsk on 11 March. Nuclear power will reduce the prime cost of electricity generation in Belarus. In addition, the country’s greenhouse emissions will drop by 7-10 million tonnes, said the Deputy Energy Minister.

Belarus reports foreign trade surplus for January
MINSK, 10 March (BelTA) – In January 2010 Belarus posted a $123.7mn surplus of foreign trade in goods and services, according to the website of the National Bank of Belarus, BelTA has learnt. In January 2009 Belarus had a foreign trade deficit of $323.9 million. According to the National Bank, in January 2010 the foreign trade in goods and services was up by 18.1% to $4.035 billion. Export surged by 34.

Tougher control over gambling industry promised in Belarus
MINSK, 9 March (BelTA) – President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko believes that instead of banning gambling business the Belarusian government should step up control in this area. Alexander Lukashenko made the statement at a government session held on 9 March to discuss a concept for Belarus’ gambling industry development. “If approached wisely, gambling industry can become an additional source of revenue for the national budget through taxes.

Belarus’ Foreign Ministry: Belarus should boost export of high-tech products
MINSK, 5 March (BelTA) – The government bodies of Belarus should intensify the work on increasing the export of high-tech products. The relevant statement was made at a session of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus on 4 March, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Foreign Ministry. The session highlighted Belarus’ foreign trade in 2009 and prospects and objectives for 2010 amid the global financial crisis.

Belarus to partake in London and Dubai travel exhibitions
MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) – In 2010 Belarus will be represented at six international travel exhibitions, BelTA learnt from Valery Boldyrev, Head of the Marketing and Publishing Department of the National Tourism Agency. In 2009 Belarus took part in three international travel exhibitions. This year the Belarusian travel industry has been already represented at the IMTM (Tel-Aviv) and Vivattour (Vilnius) exhibitions.

Belarus seeks cooperation with Baltic countries in fighting against contraband
MINSK, 2 March (BelTA) – Belarus would like to cooperate with the Baltic Sea countries in fight against contraband, Deputy Head of the Belarus State Customs Committee Vasily Dementei stated as he met with a delegation of the Finnish National Board of Customs led by Head of Intelligence Sami Rakshit in Minsk on 2 March, BelTA has learnt. The meeting is being held within the framework of implementation of the intergovernmental agreement between Belarus and Finland on the mutual assistance in customs matters.

Belarus, Russia sign temporary vehicle import/export agreement
MINSK, 1 March (BelTA) – The Governments of Belarus and the Russian Federation signed an agreement on temporary import and export of transport vehicles, BelTA learnt from the State Customs Committee of Belarus. The agreement came into force on 25 February 2010. The major goal of the intergovernmental agreement on temporary import and export of transport vehicles is to simplify the movement of all kinds of transport vehicles within the Union State territory despite the country they are registered in.

Alexei Grishin of Belarus takes aerials gold in Vancouver
MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) – Belarus’ aerial jumper Alexei Grishin brought the first gold to the country at the Winter Olympics 2010 in Vancouver, BelTA informs. Alexei Grishin scored a combined total of 248.41 points in his two jumps (120.58+127.83). This is his second Olympic medal. He won bronze at the Olympics 2002 in Salt Lake City.
