Freight transportation by Belarusian companies 9.7% up in Q1 2018

MINSK, 19 April (BelTA) In Q1 2018 Belarusian corporations and self-employed businessmen transported 106.1 million tonnes of freight, 109.7% as against January-March 2017, representatives of the National Statistics Committee of Belarus told BelTA.

Freight turnover totaled 33.7 billion tonne-kilometers, 6.9% up from the same period of last year.

In Q1 2018 some 492.6 million people used passenger transportation services, 98.


Belarus, France eager to step up practical cooperation between universities

discussed ways to expand practical cooperation between the universities of Belarus and France, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Education Ministry.

The sides outlined the top-priority avenues of cooperation in education, among them French classes in Belarusian schools and the expansion of practical cooperation between Belarusian and French higher education institutions.


Minsk to host 2018 Junior Eurovision on 25 November

MINSK, 20 March (BelTA) The 2018 Junior Eurovision Song Contest will be held at the Belarusian capital on 25 November. The event will be hosted by Minsk Arena, BelTA informs.

The weekly show on Belarus 1 TV channel showcased the forums logo and motto which were chosen at an open competition held in late 2017. The contest received more than 300 electronic and mail letters from different countries.

Belarus GDP 5.6% up in January-February

MINSK, 16 March (BelTA) In January-February Belarus GDP rose by 5.6%, BelTA learned from the website of the National Statistics Committee of Belarus.

In current prices Belarus GDP stood at Br17.2 billion or 105.6% in comparable prices as against January-February 2017.

In January-February 2018 the GDP deflator index totaled 110.2% as against the same period of last year.



Belarusian microchip maker to participate in Indian space industry tender

MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) The Belarusian electronics manufacturer OAO Integral will take part in a new tender for the development and delivery of microchips for Indian spacecraft, BelTA learned from Anatoly Belous, Integrals Deputy Director General for R&D, on 2 March.

Thanks to new technical solutions in the area of circuitry engineering OAO Integral was earlier able to win a tender for the development and delivery of microchips for the Indian space industry.


Belarus Supreme Court seeks closer cooperation with German foundation IRZ

MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) - The Supreme Court of Belarus expressed readiness for active business dialogue with the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ), the press service of the countrys Supreme Court told BelTA following the meeting between Chairman of the Supreme Court Valentin Sukalo and Director of the German foundation Stefan Hulshorster in Minsk.

The sides discussed further cooperation in the areas relevant for the development of the Belarusian judicial system, including such issues as judicial administration and professional development of judges, the introduction of appeals to civil judicial proceedings starting from July 2018.


FM: Belarus has no plans to slow down WTO accession talks

MINSK, 8 February (BelTA) In 2017 Belarus considerably intensified the talks on joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) and is intended to keep the pace, Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said in an interview to the Russian newspaper Izvestia, BelTA has learned.

After a twelve-year hiatus, we held two meetings of the WTO working group on Belarus' accession in Geneva in January and September.


Belarus, Georgia to develop cooperation in trade, agriculture, tourism

MINSK, 1 February (BelTA) Belarus and Georgia will develop cooperation in trade, agriculture and tourism, Belarus Deputy Prime Minister Mikhail Rusy told the media after the meeting of the intergovernmental Belarusian-Georgian commission on economic cooperation on 31 January, BelTA has learned.

Belarus-Georgia trade and economic relations and cooperation in the humanitarian, cultural and tourism sectors have been vibrant in the past two years.


Some 10,500 domestic observers accredited for municipal elections in Belarus

MINSK, 24 January (BelTA) The election commissions have accredited 10,500 domestic observers for the elections of the 28th convocation municipal councils of deputies, BelTA learned from Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina on 23 January.

The Belarusian national youth union BRSM, the public association Belaya Rus, and the Belarusian Public Association of Veterans have the largest numbers of accredited observers.


Belarusian Belkommunmash to sell fast trams to Russian Volgograd

MOSCOW, 18 January (BelTA) The Belarusian mechanical engineering company Belkommunmash has won a tender to sell ten modern low-floor trams for fast tram lines to the Russian city of Volgograd, representatives of the embassy of Belarus in Russia told BelTA.

The contract with the Volgograd city administration will be signed soon. It will stipulate the schedule for delivering the trams to a large mass transit system operator in the Russian city.
